Tyler reportedly not suing Aerosmith
Aerosmith, who are believed by many to be the most important American rock and roll band of all time, have enjoyed amazing longevity. Though they signed their first major label record deal back in 1972 with Columbia Records, they are still a very viable, and profitable, commodity to this day. It is well known that lead singer Steven Tyler suffered a shoulder injury from falling off the stage during a show in the biker haven of Sturgis, SD in August of 2009. This forced the cancellation of the remainder of their tour, which was a dual-billed classic rock extravaganza alongside the seminal Texas rockers ZZ Top.
In December, reports surfaced that Tyler, who will be 62 on March 26th, had gone into rehab to manage an addiction to the painkillers he had been taking over the years for a number of physical ailments. This, along with some earlier remarks attributed to Tyler concerning his desire to devote time to solo work to further “brand Tyler” led to an announcement in January by Aerosmith lead guitarist Joe Perry that the band was going to have to start auditioning lead singers to fill in for the sexagenarian front man. In response, there were grumbling of a possible lawsuit by Tyler to prevent anyone from taking his place in the band.
Now, Pollstar is reporting that that the lead singer’s camp says that the other members of Aerosmith need not worry about a long Tyler absence and that he has no beef and is anxious to return.
“With the help of my family and team of medical professionals, I’m taking responsibility for management of pain and am eager to be back on the stage and in the recording studio with my band mates Joe Perry, Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton and Brad Whitford. I wish to set the record straight and say that I have read reports of a rumored two-year hiatus and want to be clear that this is completely false. I will enthusiastically be writing, recording and performing with Aerosmith as soon as things are handled,” said Steven Tyler in a statement.
Potential lead singers that were supposedly under consideration included Chris Cornell and Billy Idol.
